Sturiosomatichthys sp. is a beautiful and common whiptail catfish, making it an ideal choice for mature aquariums decorated with driftwood, as well as an abundance of biofilm and algae for grazing.

Max Size: Adults can reach approximately 8 to 10 inches (20 to 25 centimeters).

Behavior: Known for a peaceful and non-aggressive nature, this species is well-suited for community tanks. Primarily nocturnal, they become more active during evening and nighttime hours. They prefer to hide in caves, crevices, or among plants during daylight.

Tank Requirements: A minimum of 30 gallons is recommended for a healthy environment. Provide plenty of hiding spots such as caves, driftwood, and dense aquatic plants. Use a smooth substrate to protect their delicate barbels from injury.

Water Parameters: Temperature range: 68°F to 78°F (22°C to 27°C). Water hardness: Prefers soft to moderately hard water. Maintain water quality with regular water changes to ensure stability.

Diet: Herbivorous and Algae-eating; mainly feeds on biofilm, algae, and plant matter. Supplement their diet with sinking algae wafers, blanched vegetables like zucchini or cucumber, and occasional live or frozen foods such as bloodworms or brine shrimp.

Compatibility: Generally peaceful and compatible with a variety of community fish, especially small to medium-sized species that do not outcompete them for food. Avoid housing with aggressive or predatory species that may harass or harm them.
